The Commercial Appeal: Cheers! Vintage901 Wine & Food Festival aims to bring Memphians together

By Jennifer Chandler

If you love wine, food and good company, you need to put Vintage901 Wine & Food Festival on your calendar.

In its fifth year, Vintage901 is a wine, food and music experience that is not to be missed. This year, the event is May 15 at Levitt Shell in Overton Park.

Wines will be flowing, good food will be plentiful and, most importantly, Memphians will have a unique opportunity to come together as a community.

In addition to enjoying good wine and food, the organizers had a bigger reason for organizing this event.

“The mission and purpose of Vintage901 is to bring the Memphis community together. And there is no better way to do that than over food, wine and music,” event founder Stephanie Ferreira said.

The 2021 Vintage901 will look a little different from past years. Instead of being a three-day celebration, this year’s event will happen on one day only. The event will also be held outdoors for COVID-19 safety.

Organizers said they will celebrate the arts — culinary, dance, music and visual — during the Grand Tasting at the Levitt Shell. ArtsMemphis will be the beneficiary for this event.

“The Vintage901 family invites you to come celebrate life and each other in the city that we all love,” Ferreira said. “Let’s safely reconnect with old friends, meet new ones and reflect on all that is good in our city.”

This one-day event will have two opportunities for participation, with two Grand Tasting events. The first is from noon to 3 p.m. and the second is from 6 to 9 p.m.

Both outdoor events will feature fine wines, food demos by Chef Tamra Patterson of Chef Tam’s Underground Cafe, Chef Jimmy Gentry, food trucks (such as Sweetnur's, El Mero Taco, Gourmade and Soi Number 9), and Memphis musical entertainment from Memphis Jazz Workshop, Sing Off Dance Off by New Ballet Ensemble/Opera Memphis, and Hope Clayburn and Soul Scrimmage.

Visit vintage901.org for more information and tickets. Advance ticket purchase is recommended. Tickets start at $100.
